There are three fundamental principals around which residency rotations are structured:
These goals are achieved through a model of small resident and faculty teams based on the orthopedic subspecialties. These include sports, trauma, spine, children’s orthopedics, foot and ankle, upper extremity, tumors, and general orthopedics (VA). Each of these teams has 2-3 faculty members and 2-3 residents. Each resident rotates on these teams 2-3 times during their training progressing from junior level responsibilities to senior level responsibilities. Small teams allow focused educational experiences with sub specialized faculty members. Residents working in small teams share responsibilities and residents benefit from the experience of their more senior colleagues.
The rotations during and orthopeadic residents training cover all of the orthopaedic subspecialities.
