Application Submission

All applications must be submitted through ERAS. Applications are available through your medical school or the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Hard copy applications will not be accepted. Applications should be submitted by November 1st. The Educational Commission must certify permanent immigrants and U.S. citizens who graduated from medical schools outside the United States and Canada for Foreign Medical Graduates. Information about certification and visa sponsorship is available from:

You will be notified when your application has been reviewed. Selected candidates will be invited for personal interviews. Interviews will be scheduled in November and December. During the interview, you will meet the program director, faculty physicians, and residents.


International Center For Orthopaedic Education

The International Center for Orthopaedic Education (ICOE) is a free program that promotes exchange in postgraduate orthopaedic education (fellowships). The ICOE’s mission is to provide better patient care by coordinating educational, teaching, and service experiences between countries around the world. Application Requirements

Applicants should use the ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) to submit:

  • Completed Application Form
  • Letter of Recommendation from Dean of Medical School
  • Three Additional Letters of Recommendation
  • Medical School Transcripts
  • USMLE Scores
  • One Page Personal Statement Recommended

Optional

  • ERAs allows you to submit 4 letters of reference, we require at least 3 reference letters.  If you wish to provide a brief paragraph explaining the reasons for your interest in the University of Iowa Orthopaedic Residency, you may do this in addition to providing three letters of reference.  This brief paragraph would take the place of one of the potential four letters of reference.
