Ignacio V. Ponseti Biochemistry and Cell Biology Laboratory

The Ignacio V. Ponseti Orthopaedic Biology Laboratory, located at 1182 Medical Laboratories Building, serves as a resource for the conduct of basic and applied biological research directed toward investigating diseases of the musculoskeletal system.  Current areas  of investigation include aging of musculoskeletal cells and tissues, the pathogenesis of primary and post-traumatic osteoarthritis, the role of mesenchymal stem cells in osteochondral repair, the mechanobiology of connective tissue cells, intervertebral disc degeneration, and musculoskeletal oncology   The laboratory serves orthopaedic faculty members, fellows, residents, and medical students.  Financial support comes from external sources, (federal agencies, foundations, and not-for-profit organizations), as well as from internal funds.
